2021: Allen-Bradley Laser Scanner and Light Curtain Presentation

Manufacturers will be able to use data as a powerful tool to significantly improve security and performance with two intelligent security devices from Rockwell Automation. The company announced this on February 15, 2021.

Laser scanner Allen-Bradley SafeZone 3 with CIP Safety Ethernet by/and IP Allen-Bradley GuardShield 450L with CIP Safety by EtherNet/IP provide users with access to critical data necessary to obtain complete information information about the machine or the state of the production line. These devices make machines smart, collecting information for users so that they can monitor the state of the machine, increase uptime, increase flexibility and security while reducing total cost of ownership.

These smart devices help you get information for further diagnostics, such as where security failures occur and whether operators follow standard operating procedures. Such information can be used to improve the performance and operability of process equipment.

For many manufacturers, this approach to security will not only help better protect enterprise employees and technological processes, but also significantly increase productivity, "comments Lee Lane, vice president and head of Sensing, Safety & Industrial Components at Rockwell Automation. Traditional security devices provide either very little or no information. Smart security devices provide greater transparency in operations and help workers understand process conditions, environments, and other factors affecting safety and performance.

The presented SafeZone 3 laser scanner with CIP Safety security protocol provides volumetric detection inside the work area. Using CIP Safety allows users to manage multiple security zones at the same time, rather than switching from one security zone to another. It also expands the field of view of the scanner and provides important diagnostic data with only one connection over the EtherNet/IP network.

This can increase productivity: for example, by timely notification of employees about a possible danger, you can prevent a slow down or stop the machine. In addition, with CIP Safety, additional diagnostic data can be transmitted to alert users about typical failures, such as the presence of dust on the scanner lenses.

Safety light curtains GuardShield 450L with CIP Safety over the network EtherNet/IP protect personnel from injuries associated with dangerous movements of the machine. CIP Safety provides users with greater access to diagnostic data to improve performance and flexibility.

For example, users can see exactly which beams of the light curtain have detected an obstacle to better understand the cause of downtime. Or they can capture the state of the light screen every 100 milliseconds to track the outlines of products passing through it and identify potential quality problems.

CIP Safety is an extension of Common Industrial Protocol (CIP), the application layer protocol for EtherNet/IP. Smart products that combine CIP Safety with technologies such as GuardLink help improve security and performance and simplify installation. They are also easily integrated with the Allen-Bradley Compact GuardLogix SIL 3 management system using Studio 5000 Logix Designer.

These and other intelligent devices, such as the 843ES encoder and the CompactBlock Guard Safety I/O universal encoder module, are part of the Rockwell Automation security device nomenclature that provides easier connectivity and access to multiple data, making production smarter and more efficient.
