Announcement of Mesh for Teams

In early November 2021, Microsoft introduced software  for collaboration and meetings in mixed reality. It is called Mesh for Teams  and is based on the Microsoft Mesh solution. As can be understood from the name Mesh for Teams, the product is integrated with the Microsoft Teams collaboration platform. More details here.

Microsoft Mesh Announcement - Mixed Reality Platforms

On March 2, 2021, Microsoft introduced the Mesh platform, designed to communicate and work in mixed reality. The system allows people who are physically in different places to interact with each other, as well as with three-dimensional objects in a virtual space that overlaps the real world.

Microsoft said that with the help of Mesh, you can organize the so-called "holoporting," transmitting a photorealistic image in mixed reality, as well as create virtual avatars with which you can express emotions.

Microsoft gave the following examples: thanks to Mesh, travel companies will be able to transfer the experience of virtual travel, architectural bureaus - to design buildings, creating their virtual model, and in the production workshop, a remote expert will be able to work virtually next to his colleague.

Tom Warren, a journalist for The Verge, who took part in the platform's presentation, said that this technology resembles working at Microsoft Teams. During the product demonstration, a Microsoft representative handed over virtual jellyfish and sharks with variable shape and color to a reporter. According to Warren, it was "much more exciting" than the video conferences at Zoom, in which he constantly participates.

The Mesh platform will be available on various devices, including HoloLens 2, as well as on most virtual reality headsets, tablets, smartphones and PCs.

In the future, Microsoft intends to integrate Mesh, created on the basis of the Microsoft Azure cloud, with Teams and Dynamics 365 and invites partners to actively participate in the development of this platform, to work together to create new solutions based on mixed reality technologies to increase the number of use cases,[1]
