2021: Provision of satellite channels with high capacity up to 500 Mbps

On March 3, 2021, Rostelecom announced that RTCOMM provided MTS PJSC with satellite channels with a high throughput of up to 500 Mbps for the implementation of the Affordable Internet project in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug at subsidized tariffs.

RTCOMM and MTS increase Internet availability in Chukotka

"Affordable Internet" in Chukotka is part of the federal project "Information Infrastructure" of the national program "Digital Economy." It is regulated by agreements concluded between telecom operators and the industrial policy department of the Government of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.

"With the help of satellite channels, RTCOMM MTS in 2021 implements a comprehensive project in the territory of Chukotka, on which the level of Internet accessibility for its residents depends. We readily provide telecom operators with satellite channels for the implementation of socially significant projects and are happy to be useful, providing modern digital services to the population of hard-to-reach and remote areas of our country, "said Mikhail Mutterperl, commercial director of RTCOMM.

"Chukotka is one of the few regions of the country where access to the mobile Internet is organized using satellite communication channels. At the same time, the region remains one of the most active in using mobile Internet in the Far East. Harsh climatic conditions and transport distance do not allow the implementation of the project for the construction of a fiber-optic communication line. But even in such difficult conditions, we strive to provide our subscribers with high-quality communication services and ensure continuous Internet connection in any weather conditions, which is especially important in the Far North. Despite the fact that frequency optimization was completed very recently, users have already appreciated the speed. On average, weekly traffic grew by 45% and continues to grow, "said Natalya Ekshenger, director of the MTS PJSC branch in Chukotka JSC.
