2021: Mobile processors developed by Elvis Center in Russia

In early March 2021, it became known about the creation of mobile processors by the Elvis Research and Production Center. Their production can be established at the facilities of only a foreign company - most likely, the Taiwanese TSMC.

As the representative of Elvis told Vedomosti, the company is preparing to release three processor models:

• for systems with artificial intelligence;
• for tablets and smartphones with a "trusted environment";
• for Internet of Things equipment, this chip will have energy efficiency.

According to a Vedomosti source, Elvis intends to market several hundred thousand processors by 2022. Experts interviewed by the publication believe that the project of Russian mobile chips can be successful only if a large state order is received.

Roman Mylitsyn, Director of Innovation at Astra DailyGroup of Companies, considers it necessary to stimulate microelectronics manufacturers within the country, given that the Russian mobile device market is experiencing problems associated with the lack of domestic manufacturers of electronic components.

According to the Director General of Acer in Russia Dmitry Kravchenko, the modern mobile processor developed in Russia from beginning to end cannot be Russian - by the beginning of March 2021 there is no capacity for the production of such microelectronics in the country.

The newspaper notes that only the Zelenograd plant "Micron" produces chips, but it does this only using a 65-nm technological process. Such technology, as Ivan Pokrovsky, director of the Association of Russian Electric Developers and Manufacturers, told Vedomosti, will not allow the company to meet the needs of Elvis, which works with a 16 nm topology with the prospect of a quick transition to 10 nm.^[1]
