X5 Retail Group Improves Business Data with IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog

2021: IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog Implementation

The X5 Retail Group uses IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog solutions based on IBM Cloud Pak for Data to unify business terms, data, and sources across the group. This was announced on March 17, 2021 by IBM Russia. According to the customer, the service has become the main one for both the IT service and the business divisions of the company: as of March 2021, it is used by more than 300 employees, including business analysts and data stewards. It contains more than 1200 dictionary terms and 1.5 thousand data sets.

In 2019, X5 decided to unify business terms, data and sources throughout the group of companies. Using IBM X5, Retail Group created a data catalog that contains a single trusted version of the data, information about its source, origin and quality. The company now implements self-service analytics tools based on this data catalog. The special panel displays key indicators such as data quality, quantity and quality of services, and infrastructure stability. IBM helped X5 Retail Group free up time to analyze data and get business information.

The project was implemented by BSSG, an IBM business partner. She also developed the necessary connectors for the integration of metadata and created a special authentication mechanism.

A recent IBM Institute for Business Value survey found that 52% of retail respondents trade invest in analytics to improve the speed and quality of decision-making.
