2021: Announcement of implants for hand and foot joint repair
Samara State Medical University in March 2021 announced the creation of all-ceramic implants designed to restore small joints of the feet, hands and spine. Samara surgeons will be the first to test the novelty.
According to the press service of the university, implants are made of zirconia, the most biocompatible material. The prostheses are strong and fuse well with the joints of a person, the developers say.
In their production, an anatomically adapted structure will be used, repeating the contours of the natural joint.
The production of implants is planned to be established at the Samara Electromechanical Plant. For six months, a lot of work was done: they repaired the workshop room, then purchased equipment for which the university allocated money, prepared medical documentation for registration with Roszdravnadzor. The design of endoprostheses was also developed, which was made the most anatomically adapted - it repeats the design of the natural joint.
The volume of investments in the development is not disclosed, financial investments were both from the university and from the industrial partner. At the same time, the cost of products is already known - 60-70 thousand rubles. Implants are planned to be delivered to medical institutions mainly of a trauma profile in large cities. Each month it is planned to produce about 50 copies of the product.
This work is carried out within the framework of a new unique research institute of bionics and personalized medicine, opened at SamMU. The meaning of this research institute is to create individual implants for a particular patient. The speed of creating production, technology, product is now of fundamental importance, and I am satisfied that the university has embarked on this path of innovative development in connection with production, "said the rector of SamGMU, professor of RANAlexander Kolsanov.[1] |
