In early April 2021, it became known that the brewing company AB InBev began testing pilotless trucks from. startup Embark

According to Embark CEO and co-founder Alex Rodriguez, startup partners, including in addition to AB InBev Werner Enterprises and other large shippers and freight carriers, receive early access to the company's software and services. Embark intends to adopt the experience of logistics giants and give priority to the development of functions requested by companies and their drivers.

Embark's activities began in 2016, the goal of the startup was to develop fully unmanned trucks for sale or use to create its own driverless cargo transportation service.

By April 2021, Embark employs about 120 full-time employees, and the company has raised at least $117 million in venture capital funding from companies such as Tiger Global, Sequoia, DCVC and Y Combinator.

Startup technology allows trucks to automatically go on or off the highway, stay in the center of the lane, automatically change the lane and move from the highway to secondary roads, to transfer stations. Embark systems work in sunlight, rain, fog or at night, but not in snowy conditions.

As it works with partners, Embark shifted its focus based on experience with drivers, carriers and shippers, Rodriguez said. Instead of competing with freight carriers, the startup now plans to license its autonomous systems and software.

To do this, Embark introduced what it calls a "universal interface" - a set of standard components (sensors and other equipment) that truck manufacturers can install on customers' vehicles to support their functions pilotless driving from Embark. The system can be installed on trucks of all four main manufacturers: USA Freightliner, International, Peterbilt and. Volvo[1]
