2021: Pilot project to monitor grain temperature in warehouses

On April 12, 2021, ER-Telecom Holding JSC announced that together with Alan-IT, they had implemented a pilot project in the Food Fund of the Chuvash Republic (PFChR) to monitor grain temperature in warehouses.

Granaries of the Food Fund of the Chuvash Republic are a strategic object for agriculture in the region. To preserve the properties of grain in storage, it is necessary to maintain certain conditions: the level of illumination, humidity and temperature. Manual temperature check, which was carried out earlier in the FPhR, did not always allow to receive current data on time and take control measures.

ER-Telecom proposed to automate monitoring using an Internet of Things (IoT) based thermal control system. Temperature sensors were installed at the control points of the granary, measuring at different heights of the grain embankment, connected to the wireless network LoRaWAN. Once every 15 minutes, information about the grain temperature is transmitted to the information system and displayed in the user's personal account in the form of a simple graph. The transmission interval can be changed depending on the tasks of the enterprise.

If the storage area is heated to a critical temperature, the system will send a signal to the responsible employees using push notifications or SMS. Timely preventive measures will prevent heating and burning of grain.

We consider the introduction of an automated grain thermal control system an important step towards the digitalization of agriculture and plan to scale the technologies of the Internet of Things for storing not only grain, but also other products - said Alexey Vasilievich Sergeev, Deputy General Director of the Food Fund of the Chuvash Republic for General Issues.

As a developer of services that actively use data from various sensors, we needed a technology partner and communication channels for data transmission. ER-Telecom has a large market coverage and representative offices throughout Russia. As a result, together we can serve not only our customers, but also ER-Telecom customers, which solves the strategic tasks of both companies, "said Alexander Elin, General Director of ALAN-IT LLC.

The Internet of Things or IoT is the fundamental basis for digitalizing the Russian economy. With the help of IoT, digital transformation programs for enterprises, the urban environment, as well as various industries are already being implemented. The IoT projects in agro-industrial complex (agrarian and industrial complex) allow to automate production processes, to collect exact data, to prevent force majeurs and to minimize the possible costs connected with a human factor. This is a promising industry for the development of the digital economy and a priority vector for the development of ER-Telecom Internet of Things projects, "said Vladimir Shchetinin, Head of the Engineering Integration Service of ER-Telecom Holding JSC.
