Announcement of the development plan

Hitachi ABB Power Grids announced a plan for the development of high-voltage EconiQ equipment on August 20, 2021.

A complete switchgear with an alternative gas insulation voltage of 420kV will be a commercial alternative to gas insulated products.

The EconiQ portfolio combines eco-efficient products, solutions and services to provide exceptional environmental performance.

High-voltage switchgears and portfolio switches EconiQ do not contain elegase (SF 6), a greenhouse gas, and have been proven to significantly reduce the carbon footprint throughout the life cycle.

Together with CIGRE 2021, Hitachi ABB Power Grids announced the acceleration of the development of environmentally efficient solutions. The roadmap EconiQ includes an extensive portfolio of switchgears and switches with different voltage levels during research and development. This includes column switches, tank switches, hybrid switchgears and gas insulated switchgears.

A key development milestone will be a gas-insulated switchgear of the 420kV EconiQ portfolio, which is expected to be released by the end of 2022, which will demonstrate the scale and reliability of this technology. This will be a commercial alternative to SF 6 for gas insulated SCU, which includes a switch and is supplied for power transmission networks, which in turn will significantly reduce the environmental impact.

The High Voltage Equipment Roadmap EconiQ is one of the key elements of the Sustainable Development 2030 (Sustainability 2030) strategy, bringing together solutions that promote a zero carbon society, said Markus Haimbach, managing director of Hitachi ABB Power Grids. The upcoming launch of gas-insulated KRU at 420 kV of the EconiQ portfolio will be a breakthrough in the industry for solutions without SF6 gas for high voltage classes.
