Orange Business Services Implements Transport Positioning IoT Project for EVRAZ

2021: Vehicle Positioning System Installation

The Raspad Coal Company (RUCK, manages the coal assets of EVRAZ) and Orange Business Services completed a large-scale IoT project to install a vehicle positioning system in the open coal warehouse of the Raspadskaya enrichment plant (part of RUCK). The solution warns in advance of improper unloading of coal, which minimizes the risk of mixing different grades. Orange Business Services announced this on April 28, 2021.

OF Raspadskaya is an enrichment plant in Russia for the processing of coking coals of all major brands. Up to 40 thousand tons of ordinary coal from mines and sections of the Raspad Coal Company arrive here around the clock.

In an open warehouse of ordinary coal, measuring 200 by 200 meters, each brand is unloaded in a certain sector - a stack. An improper unloading location can result in the mixing of coal of different grades, which can ultimately affect the quality of the concentrate sent to the consumer.

To track the coal unloading point in real time, the warehouse site was equipped with a complex of stationary telemetry modules (anchors) of the positioning system using RTLS technology. One hundred dump trucks transporting coal were equipped with digital transport marks that read information about the lifted body or receive it from additionally installed inductive sensors. Thanks to this, the digital assistant can accurately determine the coordinates of the car entering the warehouse, trace its route.

IT Infrastructure Industrial external access points of Wi-Fi production, Cisco protected from ingress of water and dust, are used for operation. Base stations, tags and access points are packed in special thermal covers so that the equipment can operate at extremely low temperatures (up to -50 degrees Celsius).

In addition, light-sound beacons are installed in dump trucks. When trying to lift the body and unload coal in the wrong place, the system warns the driver of a possible error. The message is also promptly received by the dispatcher and heads of the enterprise.

The Raspadskaya enrichment plant is a high-tech enterprise that is interested in maximizing the digitalization of all production processes. Here various digital projects including constructed on the basis of artificial intelligence and machine learning (machine learning) are implemented. The Orange Business Services IoT solution allows you to automatically control the unloading of coal, eliminate the human factor.
