In 2020, CMS introduced two key technological developments that appeared in the legal services market.
Lupl is an open industry platform for legal issues, which synchronizes all data related to a legal project in a single secure space. As part of a joint investment with Cooley LLP and Rajah & Tann Asia, the platform passed beta testing in 2020 and was launched at the beginning of 2021 against the backdrop of high demand.
In 2020, CMS also launched its own Reach Assistant technology platform, which provides companies affected by a potential violation of personal data protection laws with the opportunity to get operational support.
CMS also made changes to the CMS Academy internal training program, completely moving it to the digital platform. The transition was planned even before the pandemic and took place along with the creation of regional academies in Latin America and Africa.

CMS has taken several key steps to expand its geographic presence. In July 2021, CMS Kluge, a Norwegian firm with offices in Bergen, Oslo and Stavanger, joined CMS, bringing its significant experience in the field of energy, renewable energy and ESG, as well as opening up the potential for entry into the Scandinavian market.
In 2020, a record number of promotions and appointments of 52 partners took place from 22 cities in Europe, Latin America and Africa. The proportion of women among partners as of July 2021 is 43% in the UK and 37% worldwide.
At the beginning of 2021, CMS announced an updated corporate style and brand positioning based on the Future Facing principle. The rebranding was the result of discussions with colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
In 2020, we achieved good expansion, which allowed us to achieve results in an unpredictable business environment, as well as set a course for success in the future. The expansion of our presence in the Scandinavian region with the simultaneous promotion and appointment of a record number of partners makes clear the scale of our ambitions, while ensuring the possibility of further implementation of key ESG measures on our part, as well as consulting clients on these issues, " added Executive Director Matthias Lichtblau.
