2021: Announcement of Scalance WUM766-1

On April 30, 2021, Siemens introduced the Scalance WUM766-1 client module , an industrial client module in the market that complies with the IEEE 802.11ax wireless local area network (Wi-Fi 6) standard. By combining this module with Scalance WAM766-1 access points, customers can now implement augmented reality solutions or remotely control cranes, bringing Industry 4.0 closer .

Wi-Fi 6 Access Point for Industry 4.0

According to the company, at a data rate of 1201 Mbps, access points can connect a large number of mobile devices in a limited space, for example, shuttle systems in internal logistics.

Network components can also be used outside automation cabinets, for example, for communication on railway transport or in hazardous areas. This was made possible thanks to industry tolerances, as well as a compact and durable design with a degree of protection IP65. Certain mobile devices in networks can also be deactivated using the sleep function via the digital I/O interface. This helps save power and extend the life and service cycle of battery-powered mobile devices connected via WLAN. This approach optimizes energy efficiency when working with vehicles with automatic control (AGV).

Access points and client modules will also be equipped with an additional industrial iPRP (Industrial Parallel Redundancy Protocol), designed to reserve wireless data transfer through WLAN, which provides wireless communication and availability for critical applications. This feature can be enabled using the CLP module - it also allows you to replace devices in the field, since it retains the configuration and simply transfers it to the replacement device when reconnecting.
