2021: Launch of the first parksharing service in the Russian Federation
May 17, 2021 was the launch of the first parksharing service in Russia. It allows motorists to earn money by providing other drivers with parking spaces on city streets.
A service called iParkU before its launch attracted more than 45 million rubles of investment, including from foreign investors. In test mode, he worked for about a month in a small area with problematic parking and attracted about 5 thousand users. First, the service will be available in St. Petersburg.
According to Kommersant, the iParkU works as follows: the user leaves an application in the application for a place in a specific location, another person answers it and announces his readiness to vacate the parking space. A one-time parking search will cost 200 rubles, while 150 of them will go to the account of the driver who lost the parking space.
The application for parksharing was iParkU developed by a team of Russian and foreign specialists. It took about six months to develop. The author of the idea and the founder of the project is businessman David Muller-Meerkatz, who has been doing business in St. Petersburg for about 20 years. The CEO and shareholder of iParkU is Richard Stevens.
By May 17, 2021, the service is working to ensure that users more often offer their parking space. According to the developers, an increase in the size of the project will help solve this problem. By the end of 2021, the creators of the service want to launch a project in Moscow, Berlin, London and Paris.
Richard Stevens cites data according to which the volume of the market for smart parking on the streets worldwide will reach $3.7 billion. If on working days during the year iParkU will help with the parking of at least 5% of motorists in two capitals, then the revenue of the service will reach 12 billion rubles, he said.[1][2][3][4]
