2022: Market Entry

In early February 2022, Carestream Health released Smart Noise Cancellation technology in digital X-ray installations to reduce the dose of radiation. According to the manufacturer, this software function, based on artificial intelligence, allows users to reduce the dose of radiation in digital X-ray studies without reducing image quality.

The technology solves a long-standing problem in medical imaging, separating noise from the image. Traditional noise cancellation leads to blur, which degrades the sharpness of the image and can lead to the removal of important anatomical information. Conversely, the more sharpness of the image increases, the more noise can increase. Carestream Health's intelligent noise reduction system overcomes this impasse by isolating noise and creating images that are much clearer than standard processing.

Our intelligent noise cancellation based on artificial intelligence gives radiologists another important tool to adjust the degree of noise cancellation and exposure to the desired image quality to facilitate diagnosis in patients of various deviations, "said Ron Muscosky, global product line manager at Carestream Health.

Resolution was obtained based on a study in which radiologists compared paired images obtained both at a nominal dose, where the rate of cesium iodide and gadolinium oxysulfide, and at a reduced dose using intelligent noise cancellation technology. Intelligent noise reduction technology is available as an option with ImageView software on DRX-Evolution and DRX-Evolution Plus digital radiographic systems.[1]

2021: Announcement of noise removal software from X-rays

At the end of May 2021 Carestream Health , she released a new ON one based on artificial intelligence Smart Noise Cancellation (SNC), which significantly improves x-ray the quality of pictures by removing noise. SNC can be used as an optional feature with Carestream ImageView-based software Eclipse in DRX-Evolution and. DRX-Evolution Plus

Noise is often an undesirable by-product of image capture and can hide important anatomical details. Traditional noise cancellation leads to blurring images, reduced clarity, and even the removal of important anatomical information. According to the developers, SNC Carestream software is devoid of these shortcomings.

Our team of imaging specialists was able to separate the removal of noise from sharpness and contrast control using AI-based algorithms, which provides excellent image quality, "said Jill Hamman, international marketing manager at Carestream. - The new technology improves anatomical clarity of the image, preserves small details and provides the best ratio of contrast and noise in images taken at a wide range of exposures. All this increases the accuracy of diagnosis and reduces the fatigue of the doctor, and also allows radiologists to optimize the dose of radiation.

Radiation dose optimization is particularly important in the diagnostic imaging of newborns and young children when clear imaging at the lowest possible dose is critical. Objective testing showed that SNC processing reduces noise by 2-4 times, maintaining clarity and improving the contrast of parts. In a blind study, 89.5% of radiologists preferred SNC images to standard processing images.[1]
