2021: SD-WAN Network Creation
On July 8, 2021, Sber informed TAdviser that, together with the Russian company B4Com Tech (Biforkom Tech LLC), he built and commissioned a high-tech software-defined regional network (SD-WAN) in a short time. This network, consisting of more than 8 thousand connected devices as of July 2021, provides reliable and safe operation of ATMs, self-service terminals, remote offices of the bank and remote employees .
The developed network architecture meets the most recent requirements in the field of fault tolerance, providing multiple redundancy of its key elements. After the introduction of the network in Sbera, downtime was reduced by 3.5 times due to poor communication quality. The technology introduced helped to achieve high stability of systems on almost any communication channel, and made it possible to optimize the costs of them for 30-60%.
The effort to install and configure new devices has been greatly reduced: if a qualified engineer previously needed to manually configure each network device, now this happens automatically when the device connects to the network. The operation and maintenance of the fleet of devices was also significantly simplified - to mass update the settings, you do not need to work with each device individually, but just give a centralized command in the control system. Thanks to monitoring capabilities, the technology has reduced the response time to technical failures. The concept of building software-defined networks allows us to constantly improve algorithms for controlling, analyzing traffic and holding communication, which for years to come gives us a technological advantage in this field.
The introduction of SD-WAN technology is a step towards the network of the future. In the next two years, in our plans to achieve an indicator of 30 thousand connected devices, said Andrey Kovalenko, managing director, director of the Department of User Solutions of Sberbank.
