2021: Installation of a mill for rolling spring sheets at the plant in Chusovoy

On July 6, 2021, the United Metallurgical Company (OMK) announced that it was implementing a project to install two robotic mills for rolling spring sheets at its plant in Chusovoy (Perm Territory). The volume of investments is about 650 million rubles.

This equipment will allow OMK to more than double the capacity to produce spring sheets for parabolic (small-leaf) springs, which have more complex geometry and stricter quality tolerances.

The mills are installed in addition to the three available. The first mill from Bredtmann-Girke (Germany), equipped with five Japanese Fanuc robots, has already been launched. Thus, the correct machine included in the complex adjusts the algorithm of operation for each particular spring sheet, determining deviations from geometry, and the quality of rolling is controlled on the measuring machine using a laser.

The second mill with similar characteristics and capacity is planned to be commissioned in the second half of 2022. It will be additionally equipped with a curling machine for curling spring strips, which will provide a continuous technological cycle, will reduce the production time of springs and increase the grade of products.

This is another major investment project at the OMK spring production, the purpose of which is to provide our customers with reliable products in the amount they need. Due to the automated process, the spring sheets passing through the installed mills will meet the toughest requirements. Both mills are equipped with robots, which will allow us to exclude heavy manual labor and ensure a high level of safety in production, "said Azat Imamov, managing director of the Chusov OMK plant.
