History

2021: Virtuozzo bought OnApp

In mid-July 2021, cloud infrastructure provider Virtuozzo announced the acquisition of cloud developer OnApp to expand its hybrid cloud business. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

According to Virtuozzo CEO Alex Fine, after the transaction, OnApp will become a division of Virtuozzo, located in Schaffhausen (Switzerland). The acquisition will also support Virtuozzo's desire to become a leading provider in infrastructure as a service. According to Fine, OnApp largely serves the same niche of service providers as Virtuozzo.

We competed respectfully for many years, "he said. "We even have clients in common. We combine two teams and technological stacks to meet the needs of service providers, from the smallest to the largest, not counting hyperscaled, in the implementation of both IaaS and PaaS, "he said.

According to Fine, the decision to expand its presence in the cloud infrastructure market occurred at a critical moment, as the COVID-19 pandemic significantly increased demand for service providers.

To better reach more than 100,000 service providers worldwide and 30,000-50,000 in the United States, Virtuozzo is also strengthening its distribution relationship, especially with Arrow and Ingram Micro, to provide partners with licensing, professional services, and cloud services.

We have also just launched Virtuozzo Hybrid Cloud, our own cloud offering, he said. - If you take into account the scale and time of entry into the market, most providers do not want to deal directly with equipment. They want to provide solutions and software. So we're offering our own enterprise-level cloud. It is similar to, AWS but intended for service providers and supported by service providers.[1]
