2021: Water complex commissioning

On July 28, 2021, BWT announced the completion of the commissioning of the northernmost water complex in the world as part of the Russian military base Arctic Trilistnik. The complex is designed for sports of all personnel of the base. Water treatment systems developed by BWT specifically for the needs of pool visitors were installed at the facility.

Arctic Trilistnik is a military base of the Russian Federation located on the island of Alexandra Land in the Franz Josef Land archipelago, near the village of Nagurskoye. The base includes the northernmost capital building in the world - an administrative-residential complex designed for autonomous residence and the performance of official tasks by a garrison of 150 people for 18 months.

In due time, a 25 m long pool was erected on the base. The bottom and sides of the pool are made of high-quality stainless steel sheet. The sides of the pool are reinforced by stiffeners, which are welded to the walls from the outside. The base for the pool bath is a monolithic reinforced concrete foundation slab. External edging of the pool upper part provides continuous overflow of the ejected water in the overflow trough.

For the operation of the basin, water from melted snow and local lakes is used, which undergoes special filtration. The BWT filtration system supports water in a swimming pool. When treating water, the basin system uses ozonation technology, which allows to obtain water quality of a completely different level, compared to the use of ultraviolet treatment technology. Ozone causes the oxidation of chemicals dissolved in water, promotes the coagulation of dissolved and insoluble contaminants and has a powerful disinfectant property.

An automated water treatment control system is installed in the basin, which maintains a given water level in the balance tank, controls the operation of circulation pumps, regulates the water temperature in the basin and monitors the main water parameters in the basin: the concentration of free chlorine, the value of the hydrogen index and the redox potential of water. A safe and comfortable stay is provided for the pool visitors. The design of the stairs provides convenient immersion. The edge of the basin side is designed so that it can be used as a rib that can be grasped. Modern professional water treatment with ozonation ensures that there is no smell of chlorinated water in the pool room.
