DHL Express creates the world's first electrified express air delivery network

Customers: Deutsche Post DHL

Logistics and Distribution

Contractors: Eviation Aircraft
Product: Eviation Aircraft Alice

Project date: 2021/08

In early August 2021, DHL Express announced the start of the creation of the world's first electrified express air delivery network. To implement this project, the logistics giant entered into an agreement with the manufacturer of electric aircraft Eviation.

Under the contract, DHL purchased from Eviation the first batch of 12 Alice cargo electric aircraft with a carrying capacity of 1.2 tons and a flight range of 850 km. One hour of flight requires about 30 minutes of battery charging, which can be carried out when loading and unloading parcels, explained in DHL. Alice can be controlled by one pilot.

The design of the electric aircraft provides for the possibility of using it for the transportation of passengers or goods. The first flight of the Alice fully electric aircraft from Eviation is scheduled for the end of 2021, and the delivery of DHL Express electric aircraft is scheduled for the 2024th.

It is noted that an electric aircraft can be operated under the same conditions as aircraft with piston and turbine engines. There are fewer moving elements in the Alice aircraft engine, which increases reliability and reduces operating costs, and the software allows you to constantly monitor the flight to maintain optimal efficiency. Charging the electric aircraft is possible during loading and unloading, which reduces the time to prepare for the return flight in conditions of a tight DHL Express delivery schedule.
