InterScan Messaging Security Virtual Appliance

In June, 2010 the Trend Micro company announced the new version of the product InterScan Messaging Security Virtual Appliance (IMSVA) 8.0. This solution provides protection of electronic correspondence, offering the client organizations the "cloud" mechanisms of protection and virtual devices integrated within one product.

IMSVA offers the means of protecting of electronic correspondence implemented in the form of services (SaaS). These services are based on infrastructure of Trend Micro Smart Protection Network which daily performs scanning, filtering and correction more than 20 billion e-mails, the websites and files. The data collected during scanning allow to detect quickly new and poorly studied threats and to provide effective protection.

The structure of the version of IMSVA 8.0 switches also on the virtual device conforming to the VMware Ready standard which provides exhaustive check of the outbound mail traffic and is closely integrated with the unified management console and generation of reports.

In the new version support of Web Reputation technology which is responsible for scanning of the addresses URL which are built in e-mail messages and identifies links to potentially dangerous resources is also implemented. Web Reputation is a component of protective infrastructure Smart Protection Network estimating reputation of the web domain on the basis of such factors as age of the website, the frequency of its movements and indicators of dangerous activity revealed in an analysis result.

What's new?

• The hybrid architecture integrating in the single console of management and the reporting protection of incoming messages in a cloud (preventing threats before they snare) with the local virtual devices VMware Ready providing thin setup and content management for outgoing messages.
• The filtering up to 90% of e-mail messages in a cloud allowing to get rid of spam before it gets to corporate network. Customers receive the maximum protection in real time from the threats extending using e-mail without undertaking at the same time a load of scanning of huge volumes of e-mail in own systems. The cloud of Trend Micro does not save the e-mail message, and all storages of a quarantine are local, providing to customers full control of maintaining confidentiality of electronic correspondence.
• Recently added technology of assessment of reputation of the websites scans the addresses URL which are found in messages and defines whether the link to a fraudulent website with malware conducts. The technology of assessment of reputation of the websites which is a part of infrastructure of Smart Protection Network keeps track of the ratings of web domains, controlling such factors as the experience/status of the website, chronology of change of its placement and also the separate suspicious transactions revealed during the analysis of behavior of the malicious software.
