2021: Pilot Installation of Thin Film Solar Modules

On August 9, 2021, Rusnano announced that Solartek had piloted the installation of thin-film solar modules on the false roofs of three residential buildings in the Central District of St. Petersburg. The advantages of using flexible solar panels were demonstrated to the chairman of the Housing Committee of St. Petersburg Viktor Borshchev.

Among the main advantages:

  • Light weight and flexibility.
  • Do not lose production in the bright sun.
  • Easy to install and dismantle even on a "complex roof."
  • They look like a thin 'extra' layer of roofing, preserving the aesthetics of buildings.

The high sensitivity of thin-film solar modules to scattered light provides significant energy efficiency even in dense urban conditions. This will help reduce the cost of general house power supply and compensate for part of the energy costs of the anti-icing system.

Flexible solar modules take the form of roofing sheets and protrude only a couple of millimeters above the roof surface, preserving the appearance of buildings conceived by architects. The use of mechanical fasteners allows you to remove flexible modules in case of the need for spot repair or scheduled replacement of the roofing sheet, "said Solartek director Dmitry Yakovlev.

The thin-film flexible solar batteries integrated in existing and buildings under construction (BIPV or Building Integrated Photovoltaics), - one of actively growing market segments in solar power and a key element of implementation of the concept of the house with zero carbon emission (zero emission house).
