Russian biotech startup Biovolf was founded in 2017. It was created by Viktor Vektorovich, Ilya Paraushkin and Vsevolod Gruvman. The startup is developing technologies for agricultural automation. The flagship product is bioreactors for growing the Wolffia plant, which, according to the company, contains up to 40% protein per dry mass and is used as a component in the production of food and feed. The birthplace of the plant is Southeast Asia. Cultivation is controlled through the digital double (Business intelligence technology) of the bioreactor. It allows you to control all processes remotely, makes it possible to switch the plant from the production of proteins to the production of carbohydrates, launch bioreactors and control the intensity of plant production.

According to the developers, the bioreactor can be located anywhere on Earth at any time of the year. At the same time, the technology requires minimal human intervention - the bioreactor controls the optimal growing environment and can independently harvest a plant. You can manage the system through a cloud service.

Biovolf's office is located in Moscow (by August 2021).

2021: Attracting $140,000 investment

On August 13, 2021, Biovolf announced the attraction of $140 thousand in investments during a preliminary round from the syndicate of business angels of Polyus Vremya JSC. Biovolf biotech startup from Russia attracted $140 thousand investment

According to the Crunchbase website, the round of financing, as a result of which Biovolf raised $140 thousand, took place on May 1, 2021. What time investors estimated the startup as part of this transaction is not specified.[1]

As explained by Zdrav.expert in Biovolf, the principle of the technology that the startup develops is as follows:

  • Bioreactor consumes light, running water and fertilizers
  • Bioreactor creates ideal nutrient environment for tungsten growth, it is patented
  • Created 7 varieties of tungsten, adapted for cultivation in a bioreactor
  • The combination of nutrient medium and special varieties gives explosive growth of tungsten inside the bioreactor, guaranteed doubling of the mass of tungsten in 60 hours
  • Results in protein production by button from available resources
  • The IoT system allows you to control the bioreactor remotely and monitor all processes
