2021: Launch Map Resource Update System
On August 25, 2021, the Smart Driving Laboratory announced the launch of an automated system for updating and individualizing Connected Car mapping resources of the Smart Driving platform. The maps will be updated on a weekly basis, especially where customers' vehicles are in operation and taking into account their wishes and tasks. This update mode provides map coverage for Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Brazil.
For the operation of the system, a "live" update model has been created, in which data from hundreds of sources on changes in the road network, high-speed modes, traffic signs, address bases and infrastructure objects are linked to real movements of "connected" transport.
"Most Connected Car platforms in the world use third-party mapping services. We relied on our own cartography, since the built-in block of maps of someone else's service does not allow solving specific problems of transport telematics and excludes individualization based on direct and indirect feedback from customers. In addition, we use our own cartography as a basis for creating geographic information databases that allow us to gain additional benefits from our customers and partners, " says Elena Dudko, head of the cartography department of the Smart Driving Laboratory |
An important part of the update system is the processing of direct feedback - requests for certain changes or clarifications received from private and corporate users of the Smart Driving platform. According to experts, Laboratories on-demand updates allow customers to get local changes of interest to them on average faster by 4-5 weeks.
Most often, users of the Connected Car platform of the Laboratory report the appearance of new objects, changes in markings, high-speed mode, overlaps or the appearance of new secondary roads. But there are also specific tasks for local changes in remote areas and on construction sites, where Laboratory specialists, at the request of customers, draw out important objects, infrastructure and landscape elements for them.
Each call is checked and, if confirmed within a week, entered in the Smart Driving platform mapping applications, where it becomes available to all customers.
High frequency and more accurate targeting of updates will increase the efficiency of Connected Car of the Laboratory platform, improving the quality of services. In particular, this will affect the increase in the speed of renewal of geozone - virtual areas on the map, created for automation and security purposes at the request of corporate and private customers. When crossing such boundaries, the owner of the vehicle receives a signal. In the Atlas fleet management system, this can be used to implement various automation, management and analytics scenarios, and private customers usually use this opportunity to create a "virtual garage" - an area from which entry and exit are controlled around the clock.
In addition, updating data on road signs, markings, relief, contours of the road network, real routes and speed of transport, as well as the state of the roadway are superimposed on the geoinformation accident base. This allows you to constantly improve safe driving scoring algorithms, which affect the cost of insurance and the assessment of the quality of work of professional drivers.
