2021: Start patrolling Singapore's central streets
In early September 2021, it became known that robots began to be used in Singapore to patrol public places and suppress poor social behavior. The robots were created by Home Team Science and Technology Agency under the Ministry of the Interior of the country.
Singapore, considered one of the safest countries in the world, has launched two autonomous robots to detect bad behavior, such as violating COVID-19 security measures, smoking in prohibited places and incorrect parking of bicycles.
Two Xavier patrol robots are equipped with cameras that can detect poor social behavior and send signals in real time to the command and control center to the desk of the duty officer.
Tests will take place until mid-October 2021, robots will be used to observe and show messages to teach the population of their country and tourists the correct behavior in public places.
Testing is carried out in an area with high cross-country capacity in central Singapore and as noted separately, robots will not be used to protect law and order during testing.
The path of the robots is built in advance by the control center, there are also operators to whom the robot sends real-time images from video cameras and other sensors. If the offender ignores the warning from the Xavier robot, then a group of police officers will be sent to the scene of the violation who will already have a video with the incident, a photo of the offender and a form already prepared to fine the offender or his detention.
The deployment of Xavier will contribute to the work of public servants, as this will reduce the number of people needed for foot patrols and increase the efficiency of work, said the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore.[1] |
