The SourceForge project defined open-source the ERP products having the most active staff of developers: xTuple and ADempiere. According to analysts, presence of strong development team has a crucial role when choosing open-source ERP.
Two open-source ERP-системы, XTuple and ADempiere, are called "the most active" the project SourceForge which positions itself(himself) as the world's largest website intended for open-source software developers. Also headed TOP-20 software products under the name WebERP and OpenBravo.
At the moment the community of xTuple developers totals about 500 active participants, and about 25 thousand people "laid a hand to system development at different stages of its development", Ned Lille (Ned Lilly) commented on CEO xTuple. According to him, the number of downloads of a system at the moment reaches 400 thousand.
"It is difficult to sell a system", however, according to Gilly, XTuple which is based in Norfolk (State of Virginia) has about 200 commercial clients. The number of commercial installations of ERP with the open code around the world is from 7 to 10 thousand by own estimates of the company.
Gilly has own blog under [1] the name ERP Graveyard where she keeps account to vendors and products which disappeared as a result of different merges and absorption. This trend, according to him, mentioned including an open source ERP segment. In particular, recently Consona announced plans for purchase of the producer of business solutions with the open code Compiere, having stated that it is going to save the system of open.
According to Neda Lilly, nevertheless, now favorable time for open-source of systems. "Of course, technicians still find us and fall in love with our product and community", - he says. However, business users began to have a clear view of advantages of such model much more. "Often it happens so that we do not need to explain advantages of open-source absolutely", - the top manager added.
The partner of Altimeter Group analytical company Ray Wang believes that use of ERP open source has advantages when the considered product has active community and a forum as in a case with xTuple. "I will agree that in certain cases at such products the speed of the reply of service support is given much above, than at most the software companies", - he commented.
Despite it, there is no probability yet that open-source ERP will have significant effect on alignment of forces in an upper segment of the market where such players as SAP and Oracle dominate. However, their existence in the market has an impact on proprietary vendors meaning that they are forced to reckon with open-source as platforms and to adapt to them, the managing partner of consulting IT company Strativa Frank Scavo said.
"Many companies were already tired of need of permanent updating of licenses, tracking of releases of new versions and expensive support of products", - he told. "The organizations which are ready to take the responsibility for open software products will receive in exchange the maximum flexibility, low cost and control over own destiny", - Skavo added.
