2021: The announcement of a police car camera that recognizes stolen cars in the stream

On September 8, 2021, Motorola introduced, according to the company, the first car video system with artificial intelligence support for law enforcement agencies - the M500.

This solution provides more powerful opportunities for a police vehicle to increase awareness and safety, as well as build trust and transparency in communities.

The M500 is equipped with a new analytical system for passengers in the back seat, which automatically begins recording from the car camera as soon as a person gets into the back seat of a police car. This is a big step forward in the automation of everyday police tasks, which is to ensure a reliable recording of the presence of a person in a police car, as well as automatic marking and preservation of video evidence in the incident report.

{{quote 'The introduction of AI into public safety is necessary to increase the efficiency, safety and transparency of the police. The simple task of automatically recording a person in the back seat of a police car is only the beginning. The M500 represents a future for a police car where artificial intelligence and advanced analytics can detect more complex anomalies or threats to increase awareness and safety for both employees and citizens, "says Mahesh Saptarishi, senior vice president and chief technical officer of the Software Enterprise & Mobile Video division of Motorola Solutions.

The system is also equipped with an improved license plate recognition system that uses AI to provide critical alarms, for example in the event of a stolen vehicle being detected in a stream. Artificial intelligence provides officers with operational information that complements the human decision-making process, increasing the value of the entire working process of public safety.[1]
