2021: Nokia MX Industrial Edge Release

On October 13, 2021, Nokia announced the release of a solution for industrial edge systems, equipped with native cloud support and designed for critical solutions. It will help enterprises accelerate the implementation of initiatives to digitalize their operating technologies and take a step towards Industry 4.0.

NokiaMX Industrial Edge is a scalable solution to support applications and computing workloads that meet the critical digital transformation needs of high-asset industries (e.g. manufacturing, energy, and transportation). It is a combination of computing resources, storage, wired and wireless networks, single-click industry applications, and automated management based on a unified local digital transformation platform.

Industry 4.0 requires the worldwide introduction of digitalization and the well-established exchange of data between machines, equipment and other assets in the industrial environment. The huge amount of data created and the highest speed of data exchange, together with the need for real-time automation, increasingly force you to process data in an edge environment as close as possible to the place where they are created. According to the forecast of Gartner, by 2025, 75% of industrial data will be processed in the border environment.

Enterprises that have implemented the Nokia MX Industrial Edge solution will be able to take advantage of the cloud edge architecture that meets all the requirements of the edge environment. This architecture, available as a service, is easy to use and supports worldwide deployment. It addresses the complexity of solutions, high costs, and skill requirements that typically arise when deploying, integrating, and managing the lifecycle of high-performance computing environments and critical networks.

The high scalability of this platform allows enterprises with multiple branches (for example, logistics companies) to use an identical set of technology solutions in each branch, regardless of its size. As a result, the approach "Developed once, deployed everywhere" becomes feasible in practice. The Nokia MX Industrial Edge Server, built on the Nokia Digital Automation Cloud, offers enterprises a convenient unified user interface that allows you to manage everything from applications to private wireless networks.

Industry 4.0 transforms industries that actively use a variety of resources, making it possible to integrate and digitalize all processes and systems within the industrial value chain. As a result, we are facing explosive data growth. The ability to make the right decisions based on this data, working in almost real time, serves as the basis for the success of any digital transformation initiatives. At the same time, a centralized cloud does not allow you to achieve high performance and solve other issues (for example, establish local secure storage, while protecting against Internet connection failures). Not surprisingly, local edge solutions are becoming the dominant architecture for the next generation of OT applications. The Nokia MX Industrial Edge clean sheet server offers the guaranteed level of performance, security and reliability required to successfully implement OT digitalization projects.
