2021: Best Buy bought Current Health
In mid-October 2021, Best Buy announced the acquisition of the Scottish technology company Current Health. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but the consumer electronics retailer said in documentation for the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that the transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter of FY2022.
Best Buy President Deborah Di Sanzo said this acquisition will combine the Current Health platform with the company's existing health products and services, which will create a "holistic ecosystem."
In the coming decade, it will be possible to provide significantly more medical services at home, "added Current Health CEO Christopher McCann. - Best Buy offers unprecedented physical availability, world-class value chain logistics and reliable support services, enabling us to provide customer experience on any scale. |
The purchase of Current Health comes after Best Buy acquired medical services company Critical Signal Technologies in 2019 and electrical manufacturer Jitterbug GreatCall in 2018. Best Buy plans to significantly strengthen its position with new products in the categories of fitness, wearables, health and wellbeing. The company works with hospitals to offer patients solutions in the future, such as devices for measuring blood glucose, tracking heart performance, weight control and identifying allergens in food.[1]
