OJSC JSC «Proton» - Perm Motors produces, along with propulsion systems for JSC «Proton» launch vehicles, parts and components of rocket engines RD-191 for a new family of Angara launch vehicles. In addition, as a conversion program, the production of components of the Ural gas turbine power plants with a capacity of 2.5-6 MW, their assembly and testing were established. Production capacity is being increased, new, more progressive technologies are being introduced. The company employs about 4.4 thousand people.
One of the largest aerospace industry enterprises in Russia and the CIS. It produces engines for the JSC «Proton» launch vehicle, which is recognized as the most reliable transport space system in the world. As of 2007, more than 320 launch vehicle launches have been carried out. JSC «Proton» launched such satellites as Cosmos, Rainbow, Ekran, Horizon, Almaz, GLONASS, Express into Earth orbit, carried out commercial launches of Anik F1R, Direct TV8, WorldSat-2, Hot Bird 8, Arabsat 4A spacecraft. He launched automatic interplanetary stations of the Luna, Venus, Mars, Vega, Phobos series on interplanetary trajectories, launched the Salyut and Mir manned orbital stations, the main modules of the International Space Station.

2024: Net profit - 20.76 million rubles
At the end of 2024, the manufacturer of rocket engines Proton-PM recorded a net profit of 20.76 million rubles. For comparison, a year earlier, the company showed a loss of about 872.9 billion rubles. Thus, a positive result was shown for the first time in several years, as stated in the materials released at the end of July 2025.
According to the Kommersant newspaper, referring to the enterprise's report, in 2024 Proton-PM fulfilled the plan by 86.4%. In particular, the volume of shipments of products in monetary terms reached 9.07 billion rubles. This is 34.1% more than the previous year.
The revenue plan for the liquid-propellant rocket engine components segment was 82.6% completed, and the share of the corresponding products in total sales amounted to 75.7%. In the space direction, which is positioned as the main activity of the enterprise, the plan was fulfilled by 97.1%, while the share of this sector in the sales structure is at the level of 4.3%. The plan to sell products and provide services for enterprises of the Perm Engine-Building Complex was implemented by 121.5% with a share of 15.5% in total sales. The plan for the supply of parts and components for aircraft engines and gas turbine installations has also been exceeded - the figure reached 142.2%. The report says that in 2024 Proton-PM shipped one Ural-6000 gas turbine power plant: this is 100% consistent with its goals.

2025: Perm Plant Opens
On February 5, 2025, the JSC «Proton» - Perm Motors company (Proton-PM JSC) announced the opening of a new plant in the Novye Lyady microdistrict (Sverdlovsk district of Perm). This enterprise will be engaged in serial production of RD-191 engines for Angara launch vehicles.
Proton-PM (part of the integrated structure of the Scientific and Production Association Energomash named after Academician V.P. Glushko of the state corporation Roscosmos) manufactures powerful liquid rocket engines for the first stages of domestic space rockets, as well as other high-tech engineering products. The organization of serial production of RD-191 units, as noted, has the status of a priority regional investment project and is included in the action plan approved by the cooperation agreement between Roscosmos and the government of the Perm Territory.
The new plant with an area of more than 44 thousand square meters includes four workshops: galvanic, mechanical, mechanical assembly and assembly. A complex of 10 lines of electrochemical coatings with closed-type treatment facilities has been deployed. In total, about 630 units of technological equipment are involved in the enterprise.
Proton-PM reports that high-tech workplaces have been created on the site that meet modern standards of comfort and safety. The workshops maintain a favorable microclimate, equipped sanitary and household premises, a navigation system operates that facilitates movement around the building. The number of employees will exceed 800 people.
"The launch of production is a new milestone in the history of the enterprise. Employees will receive new working conditions. This means that our young people who study in Perm technical schools and universities will strive for such workshops, "says the Governor of the Perm Territory Dmitry Makhonin[2]
