2021: Managed OpenShift Service Development

SberCloud and Jet Infosystems have developed a Managed OpenShift service to deploy container applications. This was announced on October 21, 2021 by Sber.

With it, SberCloud deploys OpenShift clusters within 30 minutes without the participation of IT specialists and accelerates the development of software for its customers, including Sber ecosystem companies.

Global hypersailers, such as Amazon and Microsoft, have similar solutions in functionality.

The Managed OpenShift service we need is not presented in Russia. Initially, we understood that its creation would not be simple. The fact is that there VMware virtual are no ready-made solutions for automatic cluster deployment OpenShift for the vCloud Director platform from, which is used by us to manage the infrastructure. Therefore, we went along the path of developing our own IT system. In the person of the future partner, we were looking not just for an performer, but in fact for an assistant for the integrity of the team. Following the results of the tender, the company "Jet Infosystems" was selected,}}

SberCloud provides customer-requested service and optimizes cluster management costs with an automated service that creates a Red Hat OpenShift cluster one click at a time within half an hour. In the near future, the capabilities of the service will be expanded: users will be able to independently determine not only the basic parameters of the cluster being created on the self-service portal.

At the time of the completion of the development of the Managed OpenShift service, several customers from the open market had already contacted SberCloud. By establishing automatic provision of clusters, the SberCloud on the one hand guarantees customers quick availability of the service, and on the other, a higher level of information security. This is a big step forward for the company's business and customers who want to develop microservice applications, overtaking their time-to-market competitors.

The development of the system was carried out jointly by two teams. SberCloud took on the development of a platform backend, a self-service portal, as well as integration with a service platform. A number of service controllers and connectors for subsystems virtualizations servers domain and names were developed and finalized. Jet Infosystems engineers were responsible for the architecture of the solution as a whole and the implementation of OpenShift-specific subsystems.

We faced a unique task and were happy to accept the challenge. But, I admit, there has not yet been a project of this level of complexity and ambition in our practice. In fact, we stood next to the pioneers in the world of DevOps - with monsters like Amazon and made a similar service. As a result, the provision of OpenShift clusters in the SberCloud is fully automated. This gives completely different rates of service delivery that are so in demand,}}
