2021: Robot Presentation

In October 2021, the first Russian robot dog was introduced. This is the development of engineers of the Research Institute of Mechanics of Moscow State University.

According to the press service of the university, the robot received mechanics, drives, electronics and software for the development of Moscow State University specialists. 12 drives have a total power of more than 3  kW.

The novelty looks like a Boston Dynamics robot. The Russian robot weighs within 15 kg and has a body of anisotropic composite materials and aluminum alloys. It was made by the method of three-dimensional (3D) printing.

At the time of the announcement of the robot (October 22, 2021), it is able to move in several ways, but sometimes still falls (see video below). For example, when you try to get out of a lying position, it collapses.

The creators say that there is a huge work ahead to finalize the software and debug the machine. But even in its current form, the Robosobaka can be used as a research platform for universities and scientific institutions.

There are not many laboratories in the world engaged in walking robotics, and the appearance in Russia of prototypes of such devices creates the scientific and engineering potential of the Russian engineering school. We believe that this development of engineers at Moscow University will give a serious impetus to the development of four-legged robots in our country, "commented Anton Rogachev, lead engineer of the laboratory of general mechanics at the Moscow State University of Mechanics.

It is noted that the development of the Russian robotic dog has been carried out since 2019, completely "from scratch."[1]. According to the developers, the advantage of walking robots in comparison with wheeled or tracked analogues is the ability to move on a wide range of surfaces. The walking platform allows seamless integration with the already existing urban infrastructure created for the person.
