2021: Start developing a solution for storing scientific and spatial data
The international service provider Orange Business Services led a project on the large-scale development, deployment and maintenance of a solution for storing scientific and spatial data of the French Space Agency (CNES). This will help CNES completely modernize the infrastructure to better use the vast amounts of data from its satellites. Orange Business Services announced this on October 27, 2021.
Orange Business Services will deploy a cloud data lake for CNES - a single repository for data and archives in an original unstructured form. Lake will be able to store 100 petabytes of spatial data; will be simple, safe and fast. An additional quality for CNES will be the ability to develop new services that include data visualization, cross-referencing and information exchange.
Orange Business Services will fully control global project management - from design and installation to maintenance and ongoing operations. As a network digital services provider and founder of the GAIA-X Data Infrastructure Solutions Alliance, Orange Business Services leverages its expertise in data security and digital integration while ensuring data privacy in compliance with regulations.
Orange Business Services also provides expertise in the space sector, in particular in the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) components of Sentinel-1 and 2 satellites that support the Copernicus program. This is an EU project on Earth observation from space.
Spatial data are historically complex for use in scientific research. They are becoming a strategic problem in the "new" data economy: the value of satellites is obvious not only in terms of geolocation or images, but now for monitoring climate change: sea level, the ozone layer, CO2. Increasingly voluminous, specific, and complex data needs to be collected, stored, processed, and analyzed. As part of our approach to working with data and with the support of Orange Business Services, we are developing a promising infrastructure to provide access to this data, promote science, and support the creation of new services, products, players and entire industries, "said Thierry Levoir, Director of Digital Technology and Operations at CNES. |
We are pleased to support CNES in this ambitious infrastructure transformation project. Data Storage We combine our know-how in integrating integrated solutions with the experience of our partners to contribute to the digital transformation of CNES. Thus, we help increase the value of spatial data and contribute to the development of the French space strategy, "said Etienne Bonhomme, director of cloud management at Orange Business Services in France Etienne Bonhomme. |
