2021: Digitization of 30,000 documents
For the electronic library of BEN RAS, more than 30,000 documents of value to the community of Russian scientists were digitized. This was reported by Elar on November 11, 2021.
The Library for Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (BEN RAS) was created in 1973, consisting of 45 departments that are located on the territory of academic institutes and serve scientific staff. As of November 2021, the BEN RAS Foundation holds about 7 million copies of documents on the natural sciences - these are books, magazines and ongoing publications, for the most part - foreign. Of particular value are classical works - Archimedes, Galileo, Descartes, Pascal, Newton, Lomonosov, Leibniz, Faraday and others.
The domestic periodicals of past years are almost completely absent in electronic form, so the library administration decided to transfer this array of publications to electronic form, "said Ekaterina Andreevna Pylenkova, deputy director for library work at BEN RAS. - Also, at the request of the Director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, publications on space topics were digitized. Magazines such as Earth and the Universe, Astronomical Bulletin, Astronomical Journal, Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, Space Research, Plasma Physics. These journals were digitized from the day of foundation until 2000. Interest in this topic is also associated with the date - 60 years from the day of the flight into space of the first person. |
The originals for digitization were taken from the Library of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences. These publications make up a rare fund of documents of the CBS BEN RAS. For example, the Red Book of the Krasnoyarsk Territory: Rare and endangered species of animals (Syroechkovsky E.E.) or the Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory: Rare and endangered species of plants and animals (Nagalevsky V.Ya.), "said Ekaterina Andreevna Pylenkova. |
All digitized publications are included in the BEN RAS electronic library, information about them is already presented on the official website of the Library, electronic documents are available through the NEB (National Electronic Library).
