2021: Smart Engines Agreement for Automated Tomography Processing

The Italian Institute of Nanotechnology CNR-Nanotec has concluded a cooperation agreement with the Russian scientific company Smart Engines for 3 years to implement a project to create an automatic tomographic reconstruction system. This was announced by Smart Engines on December 17, 2021.

The purpose of the cooperation is to exchange experience in the development of tomographic reconstruction algorithms in assessing the effectiveness of the use of advanced methods of treatment and the study of neurovascular diseases. The joint scientific group began implementing projects on the use of neural network technologies for working with images of phase contrast tomography.

Within the framework of the signed act, it is planned to organize an academic and scientific exchange of experience, as well as an exchange of students and scientists, to develop a joint project on the development of X-ray tomography and microscopy methods to assist in national and international research programs.

Researchers of the Italian group have many years of expertise in conducting measurements on world sources of synchrotron radiation and the theoretical knowledge necessary to build mathematical models describing the process of image formation. Smart Engines scientists are able to create energy-efficient neural network models that can reduce the dose of radiation to patients during medical research using X-ray tomography. It is the need to reduce the dose load that is a limitation on the use of existing medical computer systems and a place to concentrate the efforts of interdisciplinary scientific groups to create new systems for the automatic processing of high-resolution tomographic data.

For Smart Engines, collaboration with the Italian Academic University of Nanotechnology is an excellent opportunity to increase the number of scientific achievements in the field of computed tomography. For our part, we offer our own neural network architectures, the use of which allows you to reduce the required dose of radiation to patients during X-ray computed tomography. And, of course, it is important to note that interaction between scientists of different countries is a prerequisite for scientific progress, "said Vladimir Arlazarov, Ph.D., General Director of Smart Engines.
