2022: Map POI Object Viewer Function

On January 28, 2022, Garmin announced the release of another update of marine equipment software in the first quarter of 2022. This update applies to all Garmin devices from the following families: these are all Garmin cartplotters and echolots, GPSMAP devices, echoMAP and STRIKER devices.

A large-scale update of Garmin marine software has been released

According to the company, you can download the updated software through the Garmin Express applications (on Windows or Mac OS) or ActiveCaptain (you need to select the option "My Marine Devices"); upgrade possible on Wi-Fi devices). " You can also install the update in Garmin branded stores (paid service).

Here are some of the updates:

  • Garmin Navionics + mapping, updating the GPSMAP user interface: thanks to the addition of graphics and fonts, the updated GPSMAP user interface has acquired a more modern appearance. The updated control panel (carousel) allows you to switch functions, as if you click the button.
  • "Vessel Look-Ahead" function: when the "Vessel look-ahead" function is enabled, the position of the vessel will shift on the map as the speed of the vessel increases so that a large area of the map is displayed in front of the vessel. When the speed decreases, the ship's location icon will return to the center of the map. This function allows you to set the setting and determine how far the vessel moves on the screen depending on its speed.
  • Map POI Object Viewer - This change has removed the view button from the card plotter cards. POI objects are now displayed after the user touches the map.
  • Polar tables: sport thanks to the addition of support for polar tables, Garmin cartplotters can now provide information for the optimal use of sails. Polar tables allow the cartplotter to calculate the optimal wind angle at which the ship can reach maximum speed.
  • Data Filters for Sailboats-Garmin cartplotters can now apply filters to values displayed in specific data fields and indicators. Filters help smooth out noise; 8 different levels of smoothing can be selected. At the same time, fluctuations in numerical values are reduced (for example, wind speed, demolition, GPS speed) for easier interpretation of data.
  • Yamaha - Support for split screen engine page: Update allows you to add Yamaha engine data to any split screen or combination page.
  • The remaining fuel, determined using the fuel sensor: after entering the volume of the vessel's tank, the remaining fuel is calculated based on the readings of the fuel sensor in the tank, and not taking into account fuel consumption. Users who have previously used the fuel accounting option may not notice the difference, unless they change the "Fuel remaining" setting.
  • Mercury - the "Sport Exhaust" function: the "Sport Exhaust" function allows you to direct the exhaust silencer for quiet or loud engine operation. You can enable or disable the "Sport Exhibit" feature if supported by the engine.
