2021: Preparation for the release of Endurance pickups

The Taiwanese company Foxconn confirmed preparations for the release of Endurance electric pickups from Lordstown Motors. The American Foxconn plant will organize the production of electric vehicles in the coming months, after which it will begin to send Endurance to the first Lordstown customers. The first deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2022. This became known on January 28, 2022.

Lordstown Motors and Foxconn rely on an unusual collaboration format. In 2018 automobile startup , he acquired General Motors an enterprise in Lordstown, Ohio, and was going to establish the production of his own electric vehicles there. However, apparently, the startup did not cope with the task, after which it sold the plant for $230 million to Foxconn. The latter launched the preparation of the plant for the contract production of electric vehicles, while Lordstown reserved its capacity for an unknown period.

Thus, Lordstown managed to preserve the automotive business and the site for production. But Foxconn is now responsible for strategically important decisions regarding the plant - a contract manufacturer from Taiwan helps the startup establish supply chains, negotiates with component suppliers and manages the plant itself, while not being the parent company of Lordstown.

According to Yang Liu, chairman of Foxconn, this partnership option has been productive for both sides. The Taiwanese company is already preparing to produce a test batch of Endurance electric pickups from Lordstown. If Foxconn does not change the announced schedule, the plant will establish a stable production of electric vehicles closer to the second half of 2022. Then the cars will begin to flow to the first customers.

In addition to releasing Lordstown pickups, Foxconn is also working on its own electric car, but these projects are not connected. The company's activities in the territory USA are limited to Endurance production, while Foxconn electric car will be delivered through the Chinese Taiwan partners and aimed at. countries Asia

As for Endurance itself, the Lordstown Motors model is an electric pickup truck that will compete with the Tesla Cybertruck and Ford F-150 Lightning. The electric car is announced with a capacity of 600 liters. from., with a range of 400 km and an affordable price of $52 thousand[1].
