2021: Foxconn Contract Release Plan
The Taiwanese company Foxconn confirmed preparations for the release of Endurance electric pickups from Lordstown Motors. The American Foxconn plant will organize the production of electric vehicles in the coming months, after which it will begin to send Endurance to the first Lordstown customers. The first deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2022. This became known on January 28, 2022. More details here.
2020: Start of sales of an electric car with four engines in wheels
At the end of June 2020, the acceptance of pre-orders for the purchase of a fully electric Endurance pickup began. Its manufacturer, Lordstown Motors, is preparing to put the car into production at the former GM plant in Ohio.
The Endurance model is equipped with four electric motors in hub wheels, which provide 600 horsepower and four-wheel drive. Lordstown Motors claims that the unique transmission includes fewer moving parts, which means it will require less service hours than conventional installations with a cardan shaft and other components.
The Endurance design was developed based on the traditional pickup profile, but without a large radiator grille. The $52 200 electric pickup provides 320-400 km of travel without recharging. The maximum permissible mass of the towed trailer is 7500 pounds (3400 kg) and the maximum speed with an electronic limit is 80 miles per hour (129 km/h). The electric pickup is able to accelerate to 97 km/h in 5.5 seconds (without payload), and in general the maximum speed is 128 km/h. The seven-liter charger reaches 95% capacity in 10 hours of charging, and at a fast charging station you can restore a full energy reserve in 30-90 minutes depending on the power. In the United States, buyers are entitled to a federal tax credit of $7500 and additional benefits for the purchase of an electric car, which depend on state laws.
The CEO of the company said that all electric pickups have already been sold out on pre-orders. In total, the company received about 14 thousand applications. At the same time, earlier Lordstown Motors reported that in 2021 it is planned to produce 20 thousand electric vehicles. The start of the supply of new products is scheduled for the second half of 2020.[1]
