2022:14 years in prison for hacking

In mid-February 2022, the Kirovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg sentenced the alleged leader of the hacker group Lurk Konstantin Kozlovsky to 14 years in a maximum security colony with a restriction of freedom for one year. He was found guilty under part 1 of article 210 of the Criminal Code ("Organization of a criminal community"), part 3 of article 272 of the Criminal Code ("Unlawful access to computer information") and part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code ("Fraud in the field of computer information").

According to the investigation, from December 2015 to April 2016, the defendants in the case created and spread a virus on the Internet, with the help of which they gained access to local computer networks of a number of large banks, travel firms, construction and food companies, after which they stole about 1.26 billion rubles. In addition, they gained access to the computer database of Koltsovo Airport in Yekaterinburg.

The investigation established that the team recruited new hackers into the group through sites for freelancers. They were scattered throughout the country - they worked from home. Kozlovsky himself and his comrades occupied a safe house. The gang also included people cashing in on stolen money. On the stolen hackers bought expensive apartments and cars, and also regularly went to rest in warm countries.

In total, 22 defendants are involved in the Lurk case (none of them pleaded guilty), one of them is wanted, recalls RIA Novosti. The state prosecution requested for them from six to 18 years in prison, and for Konstantin Kozlovsky - 18 years in a maximum security colony.

Another person involved, Igor Makovkin, whose case was separated into a separate proceeding, was sentenced to 5 years in a penal colony in 2018. He is the only one of all the accused who made a deal with the investigation and pleaded guilty.[1]
