2022: Fiber Optic Line Construction Plan for All Arctic Regions

The fiber-optical communication construction project will be implemented in all Arctic regional centers of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) until 2024. The Press Center of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Moscow announced this on February 16, 2022 from the words of the Minister of Innovation, Digital Development and Infocommunication Technologies of the Republic Anatoly Semenov.

The connection of the Arctic regions of Yakutia to the FOCL began in December 2020, when for the first time optical lines were laid beyond the Arctic Circle - to the village of Olenek and the Oleneksky district. Pokant hard-to-reach areas of the Yakut Arctic still use satellite channels.

In the republic, Gorny, Churapchinsky, Khangalassky, Nyurbinsky, Oymyakonsky, Neryungrinsky and Suntarsky districts are already fully connected to the FOCL. As of February 2022, 1385 socially significant objects are connected to the Internet in the region, including 434 educational organizations, 190 feldsher and feldsher-obstetric points, 295 local governments, 166 fire departments and posts, 257 cultural institutions, 43 objects of the Russian Guard.


According to the Minister of Innovation of Yakutia, fast and high-quality Internet allows us to implement global digital projects that improve the quality of life of people both in the central and most remote regions of the republic.

The Minister of Economy of the Republic Maya Danilova previously noted that the share of public services that are provided in electronic format is 70 percent. In 2021, a feedback platform appeared in the republic, where citizens can send their appeals. The service has already processed more than 50,000 messages. Online services in the region are becoming more and more in demand. According to the to data Sberbank results of the third quarter of 2021, Yakutsk took first place the Russian among cities in terms of the share of non-cash payments (68.4 percent of payments), and the republic - in second place among the regions (countries 67.2 percent).
