The CROC company created a geographic information system for the All-Russian Research Institute of hydrometeorological information — World data center (GU "VNIIGMI-MTsD"). Modern GIS based on Oracle Spatial and applications of Bentley Systems expanded possibilities of the analysis and data visualization, increased quality of the provided information.
In addition to information on weather which is daily provided to our citizens, data of institute are used in aircraft and on the fleet for planning of runs, in medicine for prevention of meteodependent people and the forecast of distribution of epidemics and also at construction of roads, buildings and constructions, hydroelectric power stations, etc. grandiose buildings. For example, when planning regulations of durability of constructions depending on thickness of snow cover in different regions. Being a participant of the World Meteorological Organization, GU "VNIIGMI-MTsD" does long-term climatic forecasts on the basis of information accumulated for the entire period of observations (more than hundred years) and complex analysis.
"Every day to us arrives data about more than 5 thousand measuring points which are on the land, the rivers, the seas and oceans and even in space. Our task — quickly to bring together them in the uniform center, to check correctness, to systematize and prepare for the further climatological analysis. It is obvious that the slightest error threatens a final result. Earlier for these tasks we used two systems which could not communicate. It significantly limited a possibility of the analysis and did not allow to control quality of information" — Shaymardanov Vladislav, the manager of Department of Information technology development, GU "VNIIGMI-MTsD" commented.
"All of us are interested in that information on weather was most authentic therefore tried to make our GIS extremely reliable and convenient in operation. Today meteorologists can request information on a set of parameters of the specific territory, correct the request depending on a task and receive the instant answer. The sheaf with a specialized management system for the database allowed to store and process data in a binding to geographical coordinates, to build diagrams and charts, to control quality of information arriving from measuring points. Besides, a new system allows to publish data both on internal, and on external resources" — Hludenev Alexander, the associate director of department of information technologies, the director of system solutions of CROC company told.
The Oracle platform with the option Spatial selected for storage, processing of geospatial data and their integration into applications became a reliable basis for creation of the difficult GIS-application using powerful functions of the database for the analysis and processing of space information. The software products of Bentley Systems functioning on Intel-серверах IBM System x are the cornerstone of an end-to-end hardware-software geographic information system.
