2022: Implementation of RSC Cooling Liquid Cooling System
On February 16, 2022, the company PCK announced its introduction liquid cooling systems RSC Cooling data center VK in, due to To Moscow which the rack capacity increased from 5 to 30 kW.
According to the company, the peculiarity of the system developed by the RSK is that it is a solution that combines external and internal circuits pumps in one unit with an energy-efficient control system. The cooling system consumes energy in proportion to the number of servers installed and the actual heat load.
The technologies developed by the RSK group of companies made it possible to switch to liquid cooling without stopping the data center.
As the operation of the system has shown, even if the cost of introducing liquid cooling is higher than air cooling, in general for the entire data center, capital costs (CAPEX) can be significantly reduced. As for operating costs, saving on them on the horizon of 3 years allows you to fully recoup the cost of creating a liquid cooling system. In addition, a higher density of equipment in racks allows you to optimize the use of data center space. At the same time, reducing the specific peak energy consumption reduces the cost of purchasing guaranteed capacities, uninterrupted power supplies and generators.
As a result of the project, significant savings in both capital and operational costs were achieved. As of February 2022, VK is moving from optimizing one server to optimizing the entire data center. One way to reduce operating costs is to use a liquid cooling system for hot server components - the processor and graphics accelerators. As part of the project, more than 300 processors and accelerators were converted to liquid cooling. noted Stanislav Zakirov, Director of Infrastructure Development VK |
The introduction of the liquid cooling system in the VK data center showed that this approach is effective in key parameters. Especially given the introduction of the next generation of processors that have increased requirements for the processor cooling system. Already in February 2022, the first results of the project confirm that the economic feasibility of switching to liquid cooling only increases as it scales. |
