2022: Announcement of software for detection of cerebral aneurysms

On February 24, 2022, Viz.ai announced the launch of Viz Aneurysm software to detect suspicious cerebral aneurysms or intracranial aneurysms. The algorithm, which the developers say is the first of its kind, uses artificial intelligence to detect the disease and allows the aneurysm workflow throughout the health system to standardize. The analysis showed 94% accuracy when using the algorithm.

According to the press release, the standardized workflow provides adequate follow-up treatment and significant financial benefits for hospital systems and clients. Viz.ai positions Viz Aneurysm as the first-of-its-kind population healthcare tool to promote population screening and improved care management. The company spoke about a study at the University of Toronto that tested platform accuracy using 528 CTA with 674 aneurysms distributed widely across cerebral vascular areas.

Viz Aneurysm has the potential to significantly increase the number of aneurysms detected and clinical follow-up. Combining aneurysm detection with the ability to enroll patients in a neurovascular specialist appointment is an important achievement for aneurysm patients, helping them get the necessary follow-up for this potentially fatal disease and improving outcomes at the population health level, said Viz.ai chief clinical officer Jayme Strauss.

The main method of treating a head aneurysm brain in February 2022 is to turn it off from the bloodstream by clipping or endascular embolization with microspirals, stents. It is important that the treatment of the disease be carried out in a specialized center with highly qualified personnel and extensive experience in the field of neurosurgery. The primary risk of rupture of the aneurysm on average is from 1 to 2% per year, the repeated one reaches 50%. At the time of rupture of the cerebral aneurysm wall, a large number penetrates blood the skull cavity. Lethality at the first rupture of the aneurysm reaches 17%, with a repeated up to 70%.[1]
