Overview of the main events of this week

August 10

this day celebrates a birthday the director and the founder of the search system Nigma Victor Lavrenko. Victor was born in the Moscow region, defended the thesis in MSU under the name "Large-block Parallelization of Computing Tasks using Genetic Algorithms" and now prepares for protection of the master's thesis. After the end of study Victor Lavrenko worked in the different companies anyway connected with information science and programming. To foundation of Nigma in 2005 worked six years in Mail.ru.

Nigma - the first klasterizuyushchy both metasearch engine in Runet and, besides, the serious scientific project with assistance of Lomonosov Moscow State University and Stanford University. Attendance of the search system Nigma.ru makes more than 3 million unique users. In addition to development of the searcher, Victor Lavrenko also appears support to students of faculty VMIK which once finished and also is fond of astronomy and chemistry.

August 11

"Yandex" will organize a lecture of the invited information search expert, professor of department of information researches and interactive media at the University of the city of Tempere, Kalervo Dzharvelin. Kalervo Dzharvelin found out during the researches that users of search systems often prefer short information requests even if it will demand an additional request. And search systems were initially developed taking into account more detailed requests. The speaker will explain from where this contradiction undertakes. The action will be held in English.

this day 60-year anniversary is celebrated by the founder of Apple company Steve Wozniak. Today's fantastic success of the company in the world market – completely a merit of Wozniak and his colleague and companion Steve Jobs. Wozniak actually is one of developers of the first personal computer: he created  Apple I and Apple II which purchased extraordinary popularity among users of that time. In spite of the fact that Wozniak has reputation of the computer genius, it does not interfere him with active communication with the world. In narrow circles his cheerful nature is known. In addition to promotion of Apple, for the life he  managed to become the hero of a TV show, to act in a TV series, to start a romance with the actress and to sound characters of the animated film "Code Monkeys". A favourite game of Wozniak – a tetris, the most known quote: "Do not trust the computer which cannot be thrown out from a window".
