2022: Appointment of Chief information officer
In mid-March 2022, the US Central Intelligence Agency appointed La'Naya Jones as its new Chief information officer. Prior to that, she worked as deputy Chief information officer, as well as executive director for information exchange and protection at the National Security Agency (NSA).
In February 2022, Women of Color magazine selected La'Naya Jones, Acting Director of Information Technology (CIO), as the 2020 national technology star in recognition of her leadership and influence on the intelligence community in the United States. Jones also served as Chief information officer in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Jones took a position at the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) after Adele Merritt was appointed chief information officer in the US Secret Service in early March 2022 . Merritt became the first person to take this position on a permanent basis after the departure of Matthew Cosma.
Ms. Jones will bring valuable leadership, technical expertise, knowledge and global expertise to this role. La Nai Jones' experience and leadership will help the CIA leverage rapidly evolving digital technology and strengthen key partnerships to advance our U.S. national security mission. We are very glad that she joined the CIA, "said Jennifer Ewbank, deputy director of digital innovation at the CIA. |
At the updated place of work, La'Naya Jones will be responsible for the development and support of the CIA IT system, as well as for the global communications network of the American agency. Jones will replace Juliana Gallina, who in October 2021 stepped away from the role of Chief information officer to take a leadership position in the management of the United States Digital Innovation Agency[1]
