2023: Using Automatic Passport Recognition in On-Site Service

Otkritie Bank began using automatic passport recognition technology during field service. Smart Engines (Smart Endzhins) announced this on November 24, 2023.

This allows you to speed up the identification process and make the issuance of bank cards even more comfortable.

Upon receipt of the Otkritie Bank card, the client must present the passport of the Russian Federation, and the representative of the bank must verify his data with the application. After the introduction of the technology, the process became easier - the bank representative now only needs to photograph the main spread of the passport. The snapshot is sent to the server in "Opening," where all the necessary information is automatically recognized, the correctness of the data entered by the clients when filling out the request is checked. The image processing time is less than 1 second. It is expected that the use of Smart ID Engine during field service will speed up the process of issuing cards by 15-20%.

The document recognition system is implemented in the internal information circuit of the bank. Images of documents and passport data of customers are not transferred in any form to third-party services - processing is carried out autonomously, which ensures confidentiality and eliminates the risk of personal data leakage.

2022: Completion of a pilot project to recognize documents in a credit questionnaire on the bank's website

Otkritie Bank on April 12, 2022 announced the completion of a pilot project with Smart Engines to recognize documents in a credit questionnaire on the bank's website. Automation made it easier for customers to fill out a questionnaire and increased the conversion of credit products by 25%.

Customers filling out an application for a loan on the bank's website previously had the opportunity not to enter their passport data manually, log in to the Public services website and upload information from there. However, the lack of an account on Public services for some customers, or the need to remember the login and password for it, forced you to manually enter passport data, contributed to errors or simply refusing to fill out the questionnaire.

Now customers have the opportunity to upload a passport scan or a photo of it from their phone to the questionnaire. And the AI technology of Smart Engines automatically recognizes the document and instantly fills in all the data for the client. For customers who used the passport recognition function, the conversion into the issuance of credit products increased by 25%.

By offering customers several options for autocomplete the questionnaire - using photo documents or through Public services, we minimize their labor costs and create a pleasant experience of interaction with the bank from the first touch, - said Georgy Mazin, head of the Innovation Factory of Otkritie Bank.

The world is beginning to understand that for the responsible use of AI technologies, it is necessary to follow the entire range of ESG standards, including issues of information security, data privacy and environmental friendliness. For us as scientists, this is the task of creating a new energy efficient architecture of neural networks, the so-called "green AI." At the exit, we provide our users with high quality automatic recognition without services with external verifiers and reduced carbon footprint in the processes of machine learning and execution of AI algorithms, - commented Vladimir Arlazarov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, CEO of Smart Engines.
