2022: Automatic Route Planning Pilot

On April 18, 2022, Courier Service Express (CES) announced that it would introduce automatic route planning to increase the cost-effectiveness of the delivery process. The company plans to offer couriers routes built taking into account the forecast of traffic jams. This will help to deliver more shipments by the same fleet, reduce idling and eliminate possible downtime of transport. The solution provider was Yandex Routing.

Earlier, the CSE Delivery Department used geotanks that were not connected by a single route: couriers independently decided in what order to deliver orders distributed by the logist. A pilot project in Moscow and the Moscow region with Yandex Routing showed that automatic planning increases the productivity of couriers by 15-20%.

The logistics operator plans to scale the solution throughout Russia, as well as connect monitoring the quality of delivery orders in order to reduce the burden on the staff of the call center. As of April 2022, customer service specialists process requests about the status of orders and inform customers about the location of couriers. With the help of the monitoring service, recipients will be able to quickly find out where their cargoes are, and logistics will be able to monitor the movement of shipments in real time, warn of problems and quickly respond to deviations from the traffic plan.

To accurately predict the arrival time of the Yandex courier, Routing uses historical traffic jam data. Such a forecast helps to build realistic routes. The platform also takes into account more than 300 different operational parameters describing the operation of warehouses, the type of transport, the schedule of drivers, the type of shipments transported, etc.
