2022: Fiber Optic Link Completed
Rostelecom on May 19, 2022 announced the completion of the construction of a fiber-optic communication line (VOLS) near the Arctic Circle. The 196 km long Usinsk-Kharyaga communication line connected the Head Facilities (the central point for collecting and processing raw materials from oil producing companies) and the Kharyaga oil field located in the Komi Republic.
The main fiber-optic cable was laid over a complex landscape in the difficult climatic conditions of the Far North, which is characterized by swamps, permafrost and sharp temperature differences. To overcome the heated areas, tractors and the cable layer had to move without stopping so that the equipment would not get bogged down in the quagmire. For safety reasons, the cable was laid with a clutch of tractors connected by a cable. Due to the difficult operating conditions, the equipment needed much more than is usually used for such work.
The communication line is of great importance for the development of the telecommunications infrastructure of the oil industry. In May 2022, the issue of laying a communication line further northeast towards Varandey, where an oil export terminal is located on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, is being resolved. This is about 280 km. There is a need to build a second branch towards Naryan-Mara. This will make it possible to make a full-fledged optical ring, thanks to which communication in this region will become absolutely reliable. All this will be a significant contribution of Rostelecom to the development of the Arctic, "said Alexander Loginov, Vice President and Director of the North-West MRF PJSC Rostelecom. |
One of the key clients of Rostelecom in the Komi Republic, for which a new fiber optic fiber was built, is OOO Lukoil-Komi.
Thanks to the construction of this fiber-optic communication line, the data transfer rate at LUKOIL-Komi fields from Usinsk to Haryaga has increased to 10 Gbps, and this is not the limit. Now we have the opportunity to develop state-of-the-art technologies in oil production: an intelligent field, automated production, the use of neural networks. All projects implemented jointly with Rostelecom give a significant social effect. Fast Internet comes to remote settlements, "said Evgenia Lyaskovskaya, Deputy General Director of OOO LUKOIL-Komi for Public Relations. |
