The program was developed in conjunction with the SkillFactory IT school and is aimed at doctors, biologists and scientists. One of the industrial partners was the biotech company BIOCAD.

As of June 2022, specialists in the analysis of data in the medical field are trained in several universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi and Yekaterinburg, but all existing programs provide exclusively full-time training and, accordingly, are available only for residents of these cities and those who are ready to move.

This master's degree from MIPT and SkillFactory includes both fundamental theoretical training and a large amount of practice, built primarily on real tasks. For example, students will perform image analysis to recognize skin malignancies, lung lesions, make predictions on symptoms and clinical test results, and determine the likelihood of disease from genetic and other data. Another type of task is to create software with an insulin dosage determination system for patients with diabetes mellitus.

The program is aimed at training universal specialists in the analysis of medical data of various types. At the same time, each student will form his own training track, based on the specialization that is of interest to him, from data engineering to entrepreneurial activity. For this, electors are included in the program - disciplines of choice.

Medical diagnostics are based on the study of data, moreover, completely different - from the study of cough recording when a coronavirus infection is suspected to the most complex imaging, where data science and artificial intelligence allow you to find small neoplasms on X-rays. When creating new drugs, data analysis helps to develop the drug itself (selection of a target - a protein in the human body, on which the drug will act) and assess its effectiveness, safety, mutual influence on the human body and interaction with other drugs. In medical prevention, analysis of large amounts of data allows you to identify risk factors, form useful habits, opening up opportunities for maintaining human health. Digital services and virtual assistants are successfully used in rehabilitation, and data science tools find a place in forensic medicine, - explained Stanislav Pyastnov, head of the laboratory for analyzing population health indicators and digitalization of healthcare at the Fiztech School of Biological and Medical Physics of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology

One of the industrial partners of the program was the potential employer of graduates - BIOCAD (a biotechnology company of the full cycle of drug creation: from molecule search to mass production and marketing support). The company's experts will hold guest lectures and provide cases for training hackathons.

Medicines can be done without machine learning, as has always happened. Therefore, the science of data in pharma is a completely new niche. But data analysis methods are gradually beginning to be used at all stages of drug development. At the same time, farm companies are not the only place where such skills are in demand. There are public organizations and private clinics that may be interested in new research. Finally, you can always try to make a startup. Many look specifically at biotech as a field that will soon shoot, "said Emil Maharramov, head of the computational chemistry services group at BIOCAD.

Students will take a full-fledged master's course, including independent study of educational materials, weekly contact classes with teachers (through a video communication system), tests, exams, practice (hackathons and project workshops). All training activities will take place on the SkillFactory online platform. Graduates' diplomas will indicate full-time education using distance learning technologies.

The first stage of accepting applications from applicants will go until July 27, 2022, and the second stage will last until August 20.
