In total, Ukraine plans to build 9 power units using AR1000 technology. The first of them will be installed at the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant.

In November 2023, Energoatom announced that the specialists of the Ukrainian company, together with Westinghouse, did everything possible to ensure that the nuclear units of the VVER-440, which previously used Russian fuel, already in 2023 worked on fuel produced at the company's plant in Sweden. According to Energoatom's plans, all power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants will operate on Westinghouse fuel from 2024.[1]

On March 17, 2023, it became known that Ukraine expects to establish its own production of nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants by 2027, which will be able to replace the Russian one, including in the European market. On March 20, 2023, the Ukrainian company Energoatom and the Canadian Cameco Corporation signed agreements in London on the mutual supply of nuclear fuel.[2]

The company also recalled that in June 2022, Westinghouse and Energoatom expanded agreements on the supply of all nuclear fuel for the NAEK Energoatom operational fleet in Ukraine and the construction of nine AP1000 plants throughout the country.

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy reported that Ukraine will increase the number of nuclear power units that will be built using Westinghouse technologies from 5 to 9. These are the next generation reactors with the ability to operate in maneuvering mode.[3]
