Elecard StreamEye Studio is a set of applications for professional analysis of video quality and error detection in an encoded stream to further optimize video compression and verify compliance with standards.
2020: Implementation of VVC codec support
On April 14, 2020, Elecard announced the introduction of VVC codec support in video analysis products that are part of StreamEye Studio.
VVC (Versatile Video Coding) is a codec developed by the MPEG group in conjunction with the ITU International Telecommunication Union. The codec will appear, according to various sources, in the summer or autumn of 2020. Usually, the MPEG consortium releases the next video compression standard once a decade. The emergence of the next codec just six years after HEVC suggests there is a need in the industry for more efficient video compression algorithms.
VVC is the direct heir to HEVC. The codec will be "versatile": it is equally suitable for traditional television broadcasting, for video on demand (VoD), as well as for games, video conferencing and other applications that require low latency. VVC includes tools for compressing computer graphics, expanding for 360-degree panoramic video, as well as scaling resolution.
According to the developers, the codec in comparison with HEVC should provide a decrease in bit rate by 30-50% while maintaining video quality. To achieve this result, the computational complexity of coding algorithms will be increased tenfold. The complexity of decoding is expected to be twice as high as that of HEVC.
Elecard is keeping pace with technology so that our customers who implement VVC support in their products can already perform high-quality video analysis and find bugs in the code. Therefore, Elecard has implemented VVC support in StreamEye Studio products. |
StreamEye Studio is a set of applications for comprehensive analysis of video files and video sequences.
StreamEye Studio products are indispensable for everyone who needs to maintain video quality: technical support specialists, codec and software developers, SoC architects, testers, TELCO operators, system integrators.
We closely monitor new products in the industry, and try to be at the forefront of technology, so we regularly update products. For April 2020, the main characteristics of the VVC standard have been implemented, and in the future we will regularly make changes as the next versions of the standard appear, said Denis Popov, StreamEye Studio product manager at Elecard
